Tokyo by day
June 6, 2023
Searching in vain for a specific bicycle centerstand to take home, I aimlessly stroll around in Tokyo, and along the way visit the Tokyo Skytree, a competitor to the Eifel-esque Tokyo Tower. Pretty boring, actually, when reminiscing about the crazy tower in Beppu on Kyushu. So on to the Akasuko Shrine, where the number of tourists, domestic and foreign, is staggering. A good number have rented traditional Japanese clothing, but it isn't 'real' for real, as when the locals occasionally don this, when they want to dress up for an event. Guess that's one of the things that also have changed; back in the day I noticed how many people in Kyoto went out in the evening, or even in daytime, wearing traditional clothes, but this time I saw only tourists doing it.
Back to hotel, dinner with Andreas and a talk about what is real when it comes to world events (9/11, Ukraine war, Iraq invasion etc. etc.), then rounding off the evening at Ohira-san, me thanking him for his help and a promise he will be featured prominently in the upcoming articles about the trip. He's mighty pleased when he is able to find my Nimbus in Denmark on Google Street View.
Very minor shaking back at the hotel. I'm going to miss those little earthquakes....
